Jim Thorpe planning commission looks into updating ordinance

Published July 20. 2011 05:01PM

During the Jim Thorpe Planning Commission Committee meeting, members discussed issues in town related to noise. Citizens have voiced concerns and the Planning Commission and Borough Council are looking into alleviating the issues.

"The noise on the west side of town, every year gets worse and worse. It's not just the quality of life issue, it's a health issue too," stated Committee member, Jerry Hoare.

"It's not just the residents but the merchants are concerned about it," he added.

Hoare looked into different noise ordinances in Pennsylvania. He presented the noise ordinance that New Hope, Pennsylvania has adopted.

"I checked with New Hope. They have a pretty good ordinance. It's made a difference," said Hoare.

New Hope's ordinance deals with regulations on all sorts of noises including vehicular noises and amplified music.

Committee members will look into the ordinance and discuss further whether this could be applied in Jim Thorpe.
