Crashes lead to DUI charges

Published July 19. 2011 05:01PM

Two Carbon County crashes had led to charges of driving under the influence (DUI) pending against the drivers.

State police at Lehighton said a crash occurred about 9:40 p.m. on July 9 along Church Road at SR903 in Penn Forest Township. Troopers said John W. Neff, 56, of Lehighton, was driving a 1999 Dodge pickup truck when he failed to negotiate sharp left curve in the road as he approached the intersection. The truck left the road and struck several small trees along the berm.

Troopers said Neff was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of injuries and a blood test. The DUI charge is pending.

The second incident occurred about 9:40 p.m. on May 16 along Hahns Dairy Road, a quarter-mile east of Forest Inn Road, in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Robert Carl Weiss, of Palmerton, was driving a 1994 Plymouth when it crashed. Troopers said Weiss was injured and taken to LVH for treatment and a blood test.

Troopers said a DUI charge has been filed against Weiss as the result of the test.
