Bridge preparation work continues in Tamaqua
Pictured around 3 a.m. this morning are Rob Jones, Tamaqua Public Works Director, left, and Mark Emerich, General Superintendent with Ankiewicz Enterprise of Tamaqua, looking over one of the tow holes that will house a cemented anchor block for new pipes that will west to the sewer plant water line.
Construction workers with Ankiewicz Enterprise, of Tamaqua, as well as Tamaqua borough workers detoured traffic around the southbound lane of SR309 leaving Tamaqua and spent last night into this morning continuing their Center Street bridge water main relocation in preparation to the temporary relocation, demolition and replacement of a new Center Street Bridge.
The line will be used to replace the old water main connected to the Center Street (SR309) bridge in Tamaqua. This line will be tied into the 14 inch water main that runs through South Tamaqua to Reynolds. The borough and local contractors are doing the work prior to PennDOT's demolition and construction of a new Center Street bridge, located near Hess Express, which will take place over the next few months, starting in late July or early August, and will last into next year. All water lines, sewer lines, oil pipelines, telephone lines, communication lines and power lines have to be diverted or replaced before demolition starts.
