A Weatherly driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI), and other counts following a one-vehicle crash that occurred on June 12 about 9:59 p.m. in Nesquehoning.

Borough police said Officer Carl Breiner was dispatched to a one-vehicle crash along SR209 north of the intersection with SR93. On scene Breiner found a Kia Sorrento facing the berm on the northbound shoulder with a telephone pole broke off and supported by wires.

The driver was identified as Craig S. Cannon, 38, of 1525 Wetzel Run Drive. Cannon told Breiner he was southbound when he crossed over the double yellow line and across the southbound lane onto the berm and struck the pole. A passenger in the vehicle was injured and taken for medical treatment, police noted.

Breiner detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Cannon. He admitted drinking alcohol prior to the crash. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a blood test. The test showed Cannon had a .19BAC. In addition to the DUI charge Cannon was also charged with motor vehicle code violations of careless driving, driving on the right side of the road and driving on roadways laned for traffic
