Citations issued in police patrols of Carbon waterways

During the 4th of July holiday weekend, Waterways Conservation Officers of the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission conducted roving fish and boat law enforcement patrols on numerous waterways in Carbon County.

Patrols consisted of boat patrols, vehicle patrols and foot patrols.

Waterways Conservation Officers issued 45 citations for the following offenses: eight citations for wearable personal flotation device violations; four citations issued for misuse of property and waters violations; 10 citations for failing to possess a valid PA fishing license; one citation issued for using more than two fishing devices; and nine citations for operating a motorboat at greater than slow no wake speed in either a designated slow no wake area or operating at greater than slow no wake while less than 100' within the shore, dock or moored, or drifting watercraft.

Also, two citations were issued for required fire extinguishers; two citations for failing to possess a valid boating safety education certificate; one citation for negligent operation of a watercraft; three citations issued for parent/guardian allowing a child to operate motorboat in violation; one citation for allowing a passenger on a pontoon boat to ride outside the passenger carrying area while operating at greater than slow no wake speed; four citations for possession and or consumption of an alcoholic beverage while within a state recreation area where prohibited.

One person was taken into custody for operating a watercraft while under the influence of alcohol and or a controlled substance. Charges are pending test results.

Waterways Conservation Officers issued three citations at Mauch Chunk Lake for the following offenses: two citations for wearable personal flotation devices violations; one citation issued for violation of PA Fish & Boat Commission Control of Property, swimming outside designated area.

Waterways Conservation Officers also issued three citations for incidents along the Lehigh River, near Lehighton. Two citations were issued for violations of misuse of property and waters, (ATV, unpermitted open fire) and one citation for failing to possess a valid PA fishing license.

Approximately 40 warnings were also issued for various offenses relating to fishing and general boating rules and regulations.
