Will Palmerton be the site of a television show?

Kitty Balliet Smith, mother to Palmerton Area Historical Society member Carol Stefanik, turned 96 recently. For the occasion, Carol's sister came to town and attended the June 13 meeting with Stefanik.

President Jane Borbe said a film crew wanted to use the Little White Church as it filmed sites for a possible pilot television show.

They were all young people. The cars just started filing into the parking lot. She said they were efficiency plus. They brought people with them to be extras.

One man said his grandmother belonged to the church. Borbe checked the photos in the vestibule and found her picture and name.

Borbe said when they started filming, there was no control as there would be in a studio. First a motorcycle passed the church - then hot rods. The third time they filmed, church bells rang but they were not as loud or disruptive.

By 12:30 p.m. everything was done and filming moved to the outside. A neighbor started his lawn mower but cooperated by waiting a few minutes when he was asked.

Acquisitions included a history of the Neighborhood Players as well as playbills, Irving Jelly etchings, and a fire-hose nozzle.

Burnhauser announced the Three Thursdays in July will again be held at the Kibler School.

Membership is at a record level.

One-hundred sixteen historical throws were sold and more are available at the Heritage Center. New quilts are on display at the center. They are all older than 50 years.

Peter Kern is looking for old postcards to use in the 2012 centennial celebration of Palmerton's incorporation. The kickoff will be at the Blue Ridge Country Club on Sept. 20.

The July meeting will be a tour of the synagogue in Lehighton.

The Trinity Lutheran Church's bell choir will participate in the ecumenical service at the Little White Church to be held Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m., after singing in the park at 6 p.m.
