Published July 06. 2011 05:02PM

A Weatherly man was reportedly seriously injured on Tuesday afternoon when he was struck by a truck while riding a bicycle. State police at Hazleton said the incident occurred along South Lehigh Gorge Drive in Lehigh Township, Carbon County, about 5:40 p.m.

Troopers said Edward Grega, 56, was struck by a pick-up driven by Robert Alberswerth, 20, of Weatherly. Grega was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment.

According to troopers the truck hit the back of the bike while Grega was riding along the south berm. Troopers said the truck left the road, crossed into a grassy area behind Grega's bike and struck it while Alberswerth was attempting to steer the truck back onto the road.

Grega was thrown across the road.

Alberswerth was taken to the Hazleton General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Troopers also requested a blood test.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
