Summit Hill

Democrats elect

Nathan Halenar was elected president of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill, during a reorganizational meeting held last week in the Summit Hill Borough Hall. He succeeds Robin McArdle.

Other officers are Robert Crampsie, vice president; Alice Kane, secretary; and Joseph O'Gurek Jr., treasurer.

The club will meet on the third Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 17.

Scripture sharing

The weekly scripture sharing sessions sponsored by St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the parish rectory.


Dean's list

Tristan Balliet, son of Philip and Linda Balliet of Lansford, has been named to the dean's list for the fall semester at Misericordia University, Dallas, Pa. He attained a 3.5 grade point average.

A 2008 graduate of Marian High School, Hometown, he is majoring in health care management/physical therapy.

Tristan is the grandson of Connie Heintzelman of Lansford and Elsie Balliet of Wescosville.

Borough council

The Lansford Borough Council will hold its monthly meeting tonight at 6:30 in the community center.

Christmas project

The Christmas Chimney Project of the Outreach Group of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, was a successful event that aided the elderly on the fifth floor of the St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale.

Through the generosity of many donors, the group distributed 50 gift boxes, each of which contained several items, to the men and women who live there. Cathy Watkins distributed them on Christmas Day.

The gifts were wrapped by Connie Heintzelman. Assisting in delivering the gifts was her grandson, Tristan Balliet.

First Baptist Church

The schedule of activities for First Baptist Church of Lansford are as follows:

Mondays - Men's group at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesdays - Bible Study at 6:15 p.m.

Sundays - Sunday School at 10 a.m.; Adult Bible Group at 10:15 a.m.; Worship Service at 11 a.m.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary meeting of Jan. 11 was canceled due to inclement weather and lack of a quorum. It will not be rescheduled.

All members who have not yet paid their 2011 dues are reminded they are now delinquent. Dues should be paid as soon as possible.

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8, weather permitting, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the post home.
