The Panther Valley High School's JROTC will hold a meting on Thursday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. in the JROTC classroom.

Parents are welcome to these meetings.

Summit Hill

Methodist Charge

The schedule of services for the Coaldale/Summit Hill United Methodist Charge for Sunday, Jan. 16, is as follows:

Worship services will be held at 9 a.m. in the Summit Hill United Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. in the Coaldale United Methodist Church. The Rev. Burgess Gordon, pastor, will officiate at both services.

The adult Sunday school will be held at 9:45 a.m. in the Coaldale church.

St. Paul Lutheran

The congregational council meeting of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, which was postponed on Tuesday, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 18. There will be a joint parish council meeting with members of Zion's Lutheran Church, Nesquehoning, at 7 p.m., followed immediately by a meeting of the St. Paul's council.

On Sunday, Jan. 16, Sunday school will be held at 9 a.m. and the worship service will take place at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John Hazel officiating.

The church's Confirmation class will meet on Sunday, Jan 23, at 6:30 p.m.


Democrats to meet

The Lansford Democratic Club will meet on Thursday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Sports Zoo Bar, Lansford. Election of officers will take place at this time.

Memberships for 2011 will also be taken at this meeting.

Candidates for local and county offices will be present to announce their candidacies.

The Lansford Democratic Club will hold its next meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at The Zoo Sportsbar.

Parish outreach

The Parish Outreach Committee of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford, will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mary Ellen Ogozalek. For more information, she can be reached at (570) 645-3719, or call Dorothy, 645-2580.

Parish ministry

A new endeavor of parish ministry, HOPE (Helping Older Parishioners Earnestly), is being organize at St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church, Lansford. Volunteers are needed to work in pairs to assist parishioners in need. For more information, contact Marilyn Barrett, (570) 645-0370.


The St. Mary Magdalene Society Junior Branch No. 46 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association is once again sponsoring its scholarship program for 2011. They are available in three categories: elementary grades 1-4, elementary grades 5-8, and high school.
