Palmerton community news
Palmerton Area Historical Society
At 7 p.m., Monday, Jan. 10, the Palmerton Area Historical Society will meet at the Palmerton Library. John Gunnser will challenge those present to identify antique items from his collection. Members and guests are encouraged to bring their own unusual or unidentified antiques for him and the audience to recognize. The public is invited to attend without cost or obligation.
The men and boys of St. John's Lutheran Church will hold their monthly newspaper drive on Saturday, Jan. 8. There will be one sweep of the Palmerton, Aquashicola and Little Gap areas beginning at 8 a.m.
Papers should be bundled and placed within sight of the collectors. They are collecting papers only, no magazines. The shiny inserts are acceptable. They also need brown grocery-size paper bags.
Persons missed, or those wishing to dispose of papers throughout the month, may take them to the garage across from the church on Fireline Road, which is always open. In case of bad weather, the drive will be held the following Saturday.
Caregiver Support Group
From 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, the Family Caregiver Support Group will meet at the Palmerton Community Services Center, 217 Franklin Ave., Palmerton.
Join other caregivers tending to family members with Alzheimers, stroke, dementia, Parkinsons, or other physical or mental disabilities. Share comments, suggestions and ideas to help support each other and nurture friendships while learning to cope with the 24-hour-a-day job that can be physically and emotionally exhausting to the caregiver.
The group offers free education and community support from caregivers who understand daily obligations.
Meetings are free and open to the public. Care is available for your loved one during the meeting. Light refreshments are available. For information and to register, call (610) 826-1160.
