A hit and run accident involved a teen riding a bicycle. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, at the intersection of E. Wiconisco Ave. and S. 10th St., in Tower City, Schuylkill County.

Troopers said the operator of a Dodge Charger was making a right hand turn onto E. Wiconisco from S. 10th and made it wide and struck a 17-year-old male from Tower City, who was riding a Tony Hawk Frisco bicycle.

The front drivers side tire of the Dodge and the bike's rear tire met. After initial impact, the teen was thrown from the bike and traveled over the front hood of the Dodge. The teen landed on his feet after having cleared the hood.

After that the driver of the Dodge fled the scene westbound on E. Wiconisco, making a right turn onto S. Ninth St. The Dodge was then seen going eastbound on SR209 headed towards the village of Muir.

The teen said the driver of the vehicle was a black male, who was taking on a cellular phone at the time of the crash.

The teen sustained a minor injury to his right wrist, troopers added.

Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers at (570) 593-2000.
