Three area military officers promoted in rank
Three area Military Officers were recently selected for promotion in rank within their respective services.
Captain Brian Hummel, U.S. Army was selected for promotion to the rank of Major.
Hummel, originally from Tamaqua, is an Army AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopter Pilot currently stationed in Fort Benning, GA serving as a flight instructor pilot with the 1st Air Cavalry Division. He will deploy with the same group to Afghanistan in April 2011.
Major Hummel is a combat veteran of Iraq where he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star while deployed with the 1st Infantry Division.
He is the son of Susan and Robert Hummel of Tamaqua and a 1997 Tamaqua Area and 2001 Albright College graduate.
Major Hummel is married to the former, Tania Miani of Cocoa Beach, FL, also a U.S. Army Apache Pilot.
Lieutenant Joseph Mitzen, U.S. Navy has been selected for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Mitzen, originally from Nesquehoning, is a Nuclear Surface Warfare Officer currently stationed at Naval Base Norfolk aboard the aircraft carrier USS Truman (CVN 75) serving as the Main Propulsion Assistant in the Nuclear Reactor Department.
LCDR Mitzen just completed a deployment as the Operations Officer aboard USS Kauffman (FFG 59), having conducted counter-narcotic and anti-piracy operations in the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean.
He is the son of JoAnne and Michael Mitzen of Jim Thorpe and a 1997 Marian Catholic and 2001 U.S. Naval Academy graduate.
LCDR Mitzen is married to the former Kelly Raulli of Syracuse, NY a Physician Assistant in Norfolk, VA.
Lieutenant Chad Trubilla, U.S. Navy has likewise been selected for promotion to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.
Trubilla, from Hometown, is a Surface Warfare Officer currently forward deployed to the Middle East on assignment in the Arabian Gulf serving with a Mine Counter-measures Crew.
He is currently billeted as the Chief Engineering Officer and Assault Team Leader for search and seizure anti-piracy boarding operations. He will shortly execute orders to assume the Chief Engineering Officer billet aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) home-ported in San Diego.
He is the son of Irene and Nicholas Trubilla of Hometown and a 1997 Tamaqua Area and 2001 U.S. Naval Academy graduate.
LCDR Trubilla is married to the former Carole Monkres of Doylestown, PA a Medical Sales Representative for Merry X-Ray Technologies based in San Diego, CA
