Tamaqua HS students play in District Band

Three Tamaqua Area High School band members were selected after an intense audition in December for the 2011 PMEA District 10 Band, which was held on Feb. 10-12 at Tulpehocken Jr.-Sr. High School. Senior Steven Christ and sophomores Molly Betz and Shane Mulligan attended the festival with Steven playing in the Bb Clarinet, Molly in the flute section and Shane playing in the percussion section. The band was under the guest baton of Dr. Willis Rapp, who is Chairperson of the Music Department at Kutztown University. The District 10 band is comprised of some of the best instrumentalists from a seven county area of east and east central Pennsylvania and the 150-piece ensemble was selected from over 850 auditioned students in December. Shane Mulligan was also selected for the District 10 Orchestra Festival that was held January 27-29 at Northampton High School. The orchestra will be guest conducted by Mr. Justin Lewis.
