On Saturday, Feb. 19, the "American Legion Eastern Sectional Oratorical Contest" will be held in the Jim Thorpe Area High School auditorium.

The theme of the oratorical contest will be based on "The Constitution".

While each contestant will deliver a primary speech on a prepared subject of their own choosing, they will then each be given the same Constitution-based subject to speak on for a five minute follow-up speech.

The winner of this contest will go on to compete in the State Oratorical Contest which will be held in Harrisburg with the hope of eventually making it to the National Oratorical Contest that will be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The winners of the state competition will be competing for scholarships of $7,500 for 1st place, $5,000 for 2nd place, and $4,500 for 3rd place.

In the national contest, the scholarship amounts will be $18,000 for 1st place, $16,000 for 2nd place, and $15,000 for 3rd place.

The competition at JTAHS on Saturday starts at 10 a.m. and is open to the public. There is no admission charge
