Senior center

Continuing the list of activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center located in Nesquehoning are as follows: Monday, Feb. 14 the Valentine's Day party will be held at 11 a.m.; Feb. 15 is line dancing in the morning and black jack; Feb. 16 there will be a speaker form the Diakon Volunteer Services at 11 a.m.; Feb. 17 is Wii dancing at 11 a.m.; Feb. 18 shopping on CCCT at 9:30 a.m. and bean bags.

On Feb. 21 the center will be closed for Presidents Day; Feb. 22 is line dancing and darts; Feb. 23 celebration of birthdays and playing bingo at 11 a.m.; Feb. 24 Deal or No Deal at 11 a.m.; Feb. 25 horse racing at 11 a.m.

On Feb. 28 there will be a van trip to the casino at 9:30 a.m.

Remember to sign in or call the center at (570) 669-9930 by 10 a.m. for the next day's lunch.


Borough meetings

Lansford Borough Council has announced its calendar of meetings for the month of February as follows:

Tonight - council meeting at 6:30.

Tuesday, Feb. 15 - special council meeting at 6:30 p.m. for the purpose of awarding the borough hall oil burner replacement and installation bid. The Fire Company Ad Hoc Building Committee will meet after the council session.

Tuesday, Feb. 22 - Municipal Administration committee meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the borough office, 26 E. Patterson St.

Thursday, Feb. 24 - Parks and Recreation Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m., and Community Development, Planning, Zoning and Ordinance Committee meeting at 7:15 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 28 - Public Safety Committee meeting at 6:30 p.m., and Public Works Committee meeting at 7:30 p.m.

All of the meetings will be held at the Lansford Community Center, 1 W. Ridge St., unless otherwise noted.

St. John's

At 7 p.m. each Wednesday (weather permitting), St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 East Abbott St., Lansford, holds a spiritual peaceful evening worship service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this brief evening prayer.

For those who wish to come early, a simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult and children's Bible study at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to this interfaith evening. For more information or in the case of inclement weather, call the pastor at (570) 645-0356.

Summit Hill

Borough council

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.

Legion to meet

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

Choir rehearsals

Bob Ames, choir director for St. Joseph Catholic Church, Summit Hill, has announced the schedule of upcoming rehearsals as follows: Thursdays, Feb. 17 and 24, 7 p.m.; Thursday, March 3, 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, March 9, following the Ash Wednesday Mass.

The rehearsals are in anticipation of the upcoming Confirmation Mass to be held in the church on Tuesday, March 15, at 4:30 p.m. with His Excellency, Bishop John Barres, presiding.


C.H.O.S.E. to meet

The C.H.O.S.E. Recreational Organization of Coaldale will have a meeting Thursday, Feb. 10 at 7 p.m. at the home of President Angela Krapf in Coaldale. Plans will be made for up coming events for the year. New members are always welcomed and needed.
