Driver facing DUI after crash

Published February 07. 2011 05:00PM

A Carbon County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one- vehicle crash.

State police at Lehighton said Pamela L. Kates, 43, of Lehighton, was driving a 2002 Kia Spectra westbound on SR248, in Parryville, about 7:25 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, and traveling too fast for conditions when she attempted to pass another vehicle.

Kates lost control of her vehicle and struck a concrete barrier. After impact with the barrier the vehicle began to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction before coming to rest in the westbound lane facing east.

Kates sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Lehighton hospital for treatment. A passenger, Allen J. Berger, 47, of Lehighton, was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers said was minor injuries. A second passenger, Todd W. Kerschner, 41, of Lehighton, was not injured.

Troopers said Kates will be charged with DUI.
