A railroad mishap in Lehighton resulted in the borough acquiring about 250 tons of road salt at a "bargain price." Borough Manager Mortimer L. Smedley arranged the purchase after two cars carrying the salt derailed and toppled just to the rear of the business district. The salt was hauled by borough employees to the borough garage and Smedley said the salt shed was overflowing due to the purchase.
