    ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS Students in grades kindergarten to 5th grade opened their hearts as they brought in 1,074 food items for the Tamaqua Salvation Army's food pantry. The Tamaqua Salvation Army provides food year round to needy families. Mr. John Bachert's 4th grade class won the contest with over 230 food items. James Fasnacht, Elementary Schools Assistant Principal, TASD, stated his appreciation to all the students and families that came forward to provide needed food donations for the Salvation Army. All the Tamaqua Elementary Schools are yearly supporters of the Tamaqua Salvation Army and Toys For Tots.
