Prayers were answered as hundreds of requests poured in over the last few days offering to buy children's clothing and toys for the Tamaqua Salvation Army's Angel Tree program.

As of last Friday, only 121 of the 352 children registered with the Salvation Army's Angel Tree program were fulfilled and returned to the Salvation Army. As of this morning, all tags were selected.

The Angel Tree program is designed to make the Christmas season brighter for children in need by providing pre-selected and affordable items to deserving children. Dina Depos, programs director for the Tamaqua Salvation Army, stated, "We received a generous amount of Angel Tree requests from so many caring individuals in response to the TIMES NEWS front page story last Saturday stating the need for angels," adding, "Some people donated cash, while others went out and purchased gifts the same day."

In addition to it's community youth, educational and senior programs, the Tamaqua Salvation Army, which receives assistance from the Schuylkill United Way, provides daily food donations and other assistance year round to over a thousand local families. Major Margaret Johnson, Tamaqua Salvation Army, stated, "We would like to thank the TIMES NEWS newspaper, its readers and everyone else who has helped our Tamaqua Salvation Army provide less fortunate families a brighter Christmas."
