A cooperative effort between two neighbors brought a first place in the Weissport Recreation Commission's annual Weissport Christmas Light Contest.
Winning first place was Toot Green of 424-426 White Street. Green said that she was assisted by her neighbor, Shelly Fisher, with putting up the lights on the two family home.
The home is usually a winner each year in the contest despite there being impartial judges from outside of the borough. Judges were Joe Craig and Stacey Duerst of Franklin Township and Ann Duerst of Lehigh Valley.
The two homes are near carbon copies of each other. Each side has a wreath, garland and lights, poinsettias, and red bows.
As first place winner, Green was awarded a check of $100.
Second place winner was Penny Zastko of 236 Franklin St.
The home is ablaze with icicle lights and there is lighted swag garland on the porch. The side yard is filled with candy canes and lights and there is Santa and a snowman on a moving see saw. There is also a moving snow globe, candle, snowman and a manger scene.
"We do this for our grandson," said Rob Zastko. They were awarded a $75 prize.
Third place winner was Lynette and Arland Moyer of 302 White St. Their display includes the home and side yard and includes Christmas music and plenty of Santas - which includes a lighted Santa, sleigh and reindeer on the porch roof, Santa waving from the porch and more Santas in the yard. The Moyers were awarded $50 for their efforts.
A fourth home, Bob Green of 3003 White St. was awarded honorable mention.
