Summit Hill man faces charges in Lansford

Thomas Drakeford, 33, of 305 E. Ludlow St., Apt. 3, Summit Hill, faces charges from an incident which took place at 8:39 p.m. Nov 5, 2010 on the 800 block of E. Patterson St., Lansford. Drakeford is charged with three counts of driving under the influence, careless driving, and general lighting requirements.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:

Officer Jason Helmer was on duty when he saw a car traveling east in the 800 block of East Patterson Street (Route 209) with a faulty passenger side headlight and a dark window tint.

He stopped the car and spoke with the driver. Helmer immediately noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the interior of the car.

The driver was identified through his license as Drakeford.

Helmer noted that Drakeford's eyes were red and glassy with pinpoint pupils.

Drakeford stated he had smoked marijuana about an hour earlier.

Drakeford showed signs of poor balance and coordination during field sobriety tests.

He was taken to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for a blood test.

The results showed that he had smoked marijuana.
