Published December 14. 2011 05:01PM

At a meeting of the Nesquehoning Water Authority on Monday, it was announced that state Rep. Doyle Heffley, along with representatives from DEP and Kovatch Corp., will meet with Nesquehoning Council President Mark Stromelo on Friday and water authority members. The officials will discuss the stabilization of the Nesquehoning Creek.

The creek has experienced some flooding and washout issues in the past. The purpose of the meeting is to assess the situation and to seek funding to begin working on the creek.

Jim Rhodes of Alfred Benesch & Co. is to return to the borough on Wednesday to take a look at the system in preparation for the upcoming water tank project.

Water authority members will seek quotes for new control system radios and license fees. The present radios need to be changed to keep up with new FCC mandates.

Chemical bids were opened and awarded as follows: soda ash and glycol to Northeast Chemicals and Aqua Mag and chlorine to Univar. Coyne and Shannon Chemical also submitted bids.

A special meeting of the Nesquehoning Water Authority will be held on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 7 p.m. to discuss the audit and budget.
