Published December 13. 2011 05:01PM

In order to provide more accessible and convenient services to area veterans, Rep. Doyle Heffley has arranged for the Mobile Vet Center to visit American Legion Post 314 at 314 Veterans Ave. in Lehighton from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 20.

The United States Department of Veterans Affairs operates the mobile Vet Center to reach veterans in underserved areas. There are several Mobile vet centers in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States.

"This is a great opportunity for area veterans to obtain information and access programs and services available to them," said Heffley."I encourage all local veterans to pay a visit to the mobile center and see what kind of information is available."

Some of the services provided through the center include:

• Individual and group counseling.

• Marital and family counseling.

• Bereavement counseling.

• Medical referrals.

• Assistance in applying for VA benefits.

• Employment counseling, guidance and referrals.

• Alcohol and drug assessments.

• Information and referrals to community resources.

Appointments are not required for Mobile Vet Center services. For more information, call one of Heffley's offices at (610) 377-6363 or (570) 722-8700. Visit and for information on legislative updates.
