SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS Santa Claus greets guests at the 18th annual Blue Ridge Food and Toy Drive banquet held recently at the Aquashicola Fire Company.
As part of the 18th annual Blue Ridge Food and Toy Drive, 135 people were treated to a free holiday meal on Dec. 4 at the Aquashicola Fire Company. Among the guests were 24 residents of the Palmer House, a senior centered living center.
The food was donated and prepared by Anna Marie Melo.
Assisting with the preparations were members of the Carbon Mountaineers Detachment 996 Marine Corps League and Blue Mountain Kodas Motorcycle Club.
Following the dinner, the Dream Kids entertained and Santa Claus visited with the children.
Also registration was accepted for the toys through the Blue Ridge Food and Toy Drive, with 500 toys distributed to make Christmas brighter for some deserving children on Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Melo has provided and prepared the food for the past 18 years for this community event. Referrals to attend are made through local churches and schools in the Palmerton area.
Also seven families will be assured of receiving a holiday meal when the Carbon Mountaineers Marine Corps League Detachment 996 and Santa Claus deliver food baskets.
Following the dinner, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Melo for her role in making Christmas a better time in the life of those attending the meal.
