Carbon man cited in Tamaqua

Published December 07. 2011 05:00PM

A Carbon County man was jailed in the Schuylkill County prison, Pottsville, on Monday, Dec. 5, after Tamaqua Police Chief Dave Mattson arrested him for carrying a weapon.

Travis Cheslock, 37, of 9 Main St., Junedale, was arrested at 8:40 a.m. in the vicinity of Penn and Bowe streets after Mattson learned he was carrying a handgun. Cheslock is known to Mattson as a convicted felon and is therefore prohibited from having a firearm.

A records check on the Raven Arms .25 caliber semiautomatic pistol led Mattson to call the Frackville police and it was determined the weapon was missing from a Frackville residence.

Mattson charged Cheslock with possession of a prohibited firearm and receiving stolen property. He was immediately arraigned before District Judge Steven Bayer, of Tamaqua, who set bail at $25,000 percentage.

Cheslock failed to post bail and was transported to the county prison. Additional charges are pending from Frackville police.
