Michele Huszar fulfills ambition with new salon
Gail Maholick/TIMES NEWS Michele Huszar recently opened Michele's Hair Salon at 170 S. Third St., Lehighton. Her shop is spacious and comfortable. She offers hair cuts for men, women and children, along with perms and color treatments.
About six years ago, Michele Huszar said she tried to fit into the traditional job scene, but found that she missed working with people and doing hair.
"I found that I didn't fit in the office work world," she said. "I missed the flexibility of owning my own shop and being my own boss. I really missed the work," she said. "I missed all my customers."
Today's she's fulfilling her ambition.
A hairdresser for a number of years in the Palmerton area and the previous owner of Michele's Family Hair Salon, Michele recently opened a new salon at 170 S. Third St., Lehighton, offering men, women and children hair cutting, perms and color treatments by appointment.
Located directly across the street from the Trinity Food Pantry, the salon offers plenty of free on-street parking. The shop is airy, comfortable and features a classic decor.
Michele listens to her customers and gives them the cut and color they want. Her warm friendly personality makes getting a hair cut or perm a pleasureable event.
With the time and dedication she shows to her customers, Michele says she needs to pace herself a bit more in her new shop.
"I need to learn to relax because I never take a lunch or take breaks," she said
Michele grew up in Palmerton and started her own business in that town in 1989. She also often assisted a friend at her shop during the past six years.
Her salon is currently offering grand opening specials - $5 off a shampoo and cut; and $10 off chemical treatments (perms and color).
For the fall and winter, Michele is offering lowlighting color for hair.
In the summer your hair gets bleached by the sun and for fall she suggests trying lowlighting to give your hair some color. She also noted that the darker, rick browns have also made a comeback.
Michaele also has answers for women who want to color over their gray.
"Going two shades darker or two shades lighter and your hair will look more natural," she said.
She feels strongly about staying current with the newest hair styles and styling products and believes that all hair dressers should be continuing their education to learn of the new trends and techniques in the business.
"I have continued going to shows and learning the newest cuts and techniques," she said. "I love to learn new things."
Michele's salon is open Monday, Thursday and Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Tuesday and Wednesday from 1 to 8 p.m. For an appointment, call (610) 377-3736.
