Santa's Palmerton visit piques the imagination
TERRY AHNER/TIMES NEWS Santa Claus greets Grace Sterling, 5, Caroline Sterling, 6, mother Jillyan Sterling and Ava Sterling, 1, in the Palmerton Borough Park bandstand as part of his visit on Saturday.
Their eyes sparkled, cheeks blushed, and imaginations ran wild.
Then again, Santa Claus can have that kind effect on children, much as he did in Palmerton on Saturday.
Dressed in his customary red and white garb, Santa arrived in a fire truck to greet children in the borough park bandstand.
The annual event was once again sponsored by the Palmerton and Aquashicola fire departments and the Pool Pals of the Palmerton Memorial Park.
Karen Thomas of Palmerton brought her daughters, Ryli Thomas, 4, and Taylor Thomas, 11 months old, to visit Santa.
Thomas has brought Ryli to the event for the past several years.
"We love it," Karen Thomas said. "We get here an hour ahead of time because it's a great experience, fun and exciting."
Nichella Allen, 7, of Slatington, said she enjoyed her visit with Santa immensely.
"It went good," Nichella said. "I like the coloring books."
A Toys R Us gift card, as well as a 2012 child season membership to the pool, were given out as well.
There was free cookies and hot chocolate for those who awaited their visit with Santa, while each child who visited with Santa received a free goody bag.
Overall, the event was well received, as about 200 children visited with Santa, according to Susie Arner, president of Pool Pals of Palmerton Memorial Park.
"All the groups involved in the day are pleased to bring this fun event to the community," Arner said. "We believe in the magic of Santa, and are so happy to bring it to the kids."
Arner extended a special thanks to all the sponsors who helped make the visit with Santa possible.
Those sponsors are Pencor Services, Country Harvest, Georges P& H, First National Bank of Palmerton, First Niagara Bank of Palmerton, Palmerton Memorial Park Association Pool Pals, Palmerton Fire Department and Aquashicola Fire Department.
