Assault at youth camp probed

State police at Lehighton reported investigating an assault incident at a Carbon County youth camp.

Troopers said Troy S. Bartholomew, 24, of Saylorsburg, a staff member at Camp Adams, located in Penn Forest Township, was assaulted by a resident of the camp, identified as James Lewis, 20, of Philadelphia.

Troopers said Bartholomew instructed Lewis to end a phone conversation about 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29. Lewis then began to punch Bartholomew in the left side of the head about six times.

Lewis also punched the victim in the right cheek causing a cut to his lip. Bartholomew was able to wrestle Lewis to the ground and began to restraint him when the Lewis slipped away and put the victim in a choke hold. Lewis then began to choke Bartholomew until other staff members were able to come to the victim's aid.

Lewis was charged with aggravated and simple assault and harassment.
