Tamaqua plans 9/11 service
The line up of guest speakers has been announced for the annual Tamaqua Area 9/11 Remembrance Service. The event will be held Sunday, Sept. 11, the tenth anniversary of the worst terrorist attack on American soil, at the Hometown Nursing Center on SR54 in Hometown. The annual event was moved to the nursing center last year as organizers took steps to include almost 20 military veterans who reside at the center.
The event will again be sponsored by the South Ward Playground Association, coordinated by Shelly Bonser and Michelle Mehallic, along with additional volunteers. Confirmed speakers include: PA State Senator Dave Argall; Stare Rep. Jerry Knowles; Schuylkill County District Atorney James Goodman; Schuylkill County Clerk of Courts Steve Lukach; Schuylkill County Register of Wills Michael McCord; Tamaqua Mayor Chris Morrison; Tamaqua Borough Council President Micah Gursky; and military veterans Andrew Leibenguth, Ashley Barth and Peter Frye.
Former Tamaqua Mayor Richard Hadesty will serves as master of ceremonies and the invocation will be offered by the Rev. Ed Noftz of te New Life Assembly of God Church, Tamaqua. Vocal selections will be provided by Rosemarie Noftz, Michaela Noftz and Beth Warmen. The Fireman's Prayer will be offered by Nancy Lutz Willing. Additional music will be provided by DJ Bud and Kathy.
The public is welcome to attend. Activities will begin at 2 p.m.
