The State Highways Department has signed a contract with Ambrose R. West Associates, Bethlehem, for preliminary studies for a $1.9 million Lehighton Bypass. The firm will be paid $20,660 for alternate location studies to be followed by a preliminary design for the route. The bypass is to extend for about a mile around the east side of Lehighton. It would pass over the Lehigh River. The route would begin in Weissport, extend north opposite Lehighton, and cross railroad tracks at a point north of Jim Thorpe.
