Antique/Collector Car Show scheduled in Slatington

Published August 31. 2011 05:01PM

It's a day for car aficionados who have kept their vehicles in tip top shape to show off their set of wheels.

The 23rd annual Antique/Collector Car Show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Slatington Airport along State Route 873. The rain date is Monday.

Sponsored by the Slatington Lions Club, Inc., the event will be comprised of a flea market vendor setup, registration of cars, and an awards presentation at 3 p.m. There will be food, refreshments, and entertainment all day.

Ted Kistler, event chairman, said there will be 34 classes - three awards per class - and 102 trophies awarded. There will also be nine special awards given out: Lions President Award; Mayor's Award; Masonic Award; Bup Kibler Memorial Award; People's Choice Award; Oldest Vehicle in Show Award; Oldest Show Participant Award; Furthest Driven Show Vehicle Award; and Most Drastically Altered Award.

Kistler said special attractions will include a Chevrolet 100-year anniversary display that consists of old cars and two trailers full of memorabilia, courtesy of Ron Smith of Salisbury; as well as a monster casket car as the feature car.

Some lucky winner will nab a 1965 Mustang. Parking will be at Walker Bus Garage, and across the street at Emerald Dragon Karate.

Kistler said last year's car show attracted 508 cars, three more than the year prior.

"We expect to exceed that number," Kistler said. "We have well over 250 cars preregistered, which is the most we've ever had."

Kistler said the event - the Lions' largest fundraiser of the year - has been quite successful over the years.

"We're looking forward to a lot of cars, hopefully a lot of spectators to support this fundraiser," he said. "We want to thank everybody that does support it financially and those coming as spectators."
