Toppled tree caps strange sequence of events

A large pine tree that toppled and narrowly missed the home of Nancy Meiser, Still Creek, capped a very unusual sequence of events. The tree had been planted 30 years ago by Meiser's father, Emory C. Meiser, who lived at the house until his passing August 23 at age 90. Emory Meiser passed away on the day of the earthquake. His funeral service took place Saturday, on the day of the hurricane, and his funeral dinner was held on the grounds of the Still Creek residence later in the day. Hurricane Irene brought the tree crashing down early Sunday, several hours after the funeral dinner attendees had departed.
