Spruce Street between Center Street and South Railroad Street in Tamaqua will be closed for construction on Thursday, Sept. 1 beginning at 7 a.m. Drivers traveling in the vicinity of the Spruce and Center streets intersection should expect delays and allow for additional travel time. School bus traffic will be rerouted Thursday to avoid the street closure. Individuals traveling to and from the Tamaqua High School and Middle School, Lehigh Carbon Community College and other locations in the South Ward should use Lehigh or Hunter streets. The street will be reopened to traffic as soon as possible after the work is completed. The construction is part of the Tamaqua Transportation Improvement Project, which is administered and funded by the state Department of Transportation. The project consists of traffic signal upgrades and synchronization, handicapped accessible ramps and other intersection improvements. Any questions may be directed to the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 East Broad Street, phone (570) 668-3444 or (570) 668-0300.
