Several Monroe County roads remain closed

Several state routes in Monroe County remain closed Tuesday as a result of damage and flooding from Hurricane Irene, which blew into the region over the weekend, bringing heavy rain and high winds.

According to the state Department of Transportation, Fiddletown Road/Weir Mountain Road/Gilbert Road between Meixsell Valley and Church roads in Eldred Township; Marshalls Creek Road between the Pike County Line and Route 402 in Middle Smithfield Township; Kuhenbeaker Road between Route 115; and Hypsie Gap Road in Tunkhannock Township, Route 314 between Lower Swiftwater Road in Paradise Township and Route 715 in Pocono Township are closed due to downed utilities.Also, Route 940 between Route 115 and Sir Bradford Road in Tobyhanna Township is closed due to downed utilities; Lower Swiftwater Road between Bush Road and Route 191 in Paradise Township is closed due to a downed tree; Gap View Drive between Route 209 and River Road in Smithfield Township is closed due to flooding; Midway Road between Tobyhanna Army Depot and Wayne County Line in Coolbaugh Township is closed due to a tree in utility wires; and Hamilton South Street, between Meixell Valley Road in Ross Township, and Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, is closed due to a tree in utility wires.
