After shock tremors were felt in the Schuylkill County courthouse in Pottsville and the city from the 5.8 magnitude earthquake originating in Virginia Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2 p..m. the tremors were felt. Wall high book cases in the law library on the fourth floor of the courthouse building swayed but no books fell out. Clerks working in the "row" offices on the first floor felt their chairs slide slightly. There was no evacuation and maintenance workers checked the building.

In the western end of the city the McCann's Business College building was shaken and the students evacuated.
