A Maryland motorcyclist was seriously injured on Thursday when her bike crashed into the rear of a truck. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the accident occurred about 12:25 p.m. along SR61 at Coal Mountain Road, in West Brunswick Township.

Troopers said Joanne E. Westerman, 43, of Baltimore, was operating a 2010 Victory Freedom V-Twin bike northbound. A 1992 GMC diesel truck, driven by Marvin L. Faust, 60, of Andreas, was in front of her.

Troopers said Faust stopped in the left lane to make a left turn onto Coal Mountain Road. For unknown reasons Westerman was unable to stop and ran into the rear of the truck, troopers said.

After impact Westerman was thrown from the bike and came to rest in the intersection. The bike also came to rest in the intersection.

Troopers said Westerman sustained severe injuries and was flown from the scene by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. However, a check with the hospital for a condition report indicated no one by that name had been admitted to the facility.

Faust and his passenger, Arthur F. Wink Sr., of Tamaqua, were not injured. Damages were heavy to the bike and minor to the truck.
