Arson fire destroys log loader, logs

An arson fire destroyed a log loader in an incident in Schuylkill County.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred in a remote wooded area along a utility pole line off Catawissa Road, in Schuylkill Township, west of Tamaqua.

According to troopers a 1999 Prentice 310 log loader/de-limber located on a tract of land being timbered by Aungst Brothers, of Pine Grove, was set on fire destroying the machine and a quantity of logs that were ready for shipment. Several timbered logs were also stolen from the scene prior to the fire, troopers said.

The damage to the machine was estimated at $30,000 and the value of the stolen timber at $2,000. The incident occurred sometime between noon and 3 p.m. on July 31.
