Lehighton Community holds Block Party this weekend

A Lehighton Community Block Party will be held from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 at the corner of Third and Coal streets, Lehighton.

This year's event will host a Soap Box Derby Race on Aug. 6; the first race starts at noon.

There will also be a Lehighton Idol Contest for singers 18 years and older, with cash prizes. An entry form is available on the website.

At 6 p.m., there will be a race for 500 ping pong balls down Third Street in the first "I Don't Want To Be A Duck Race." There will be cash prizes for the first three balls to cross the finish line and a prize for the last ball to cross the line.

Tickets are available at SS Peter and Paul School, 307 Coal Street, Lehighton. There will be free entertainment under the big tent in the beer garden area.Appearing on stage Saturday from 7-10 p.m. will be Boomerang, and on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m., The Shoreliners will appear.
