Michael Kieffer Sr., 48, of 335 E. Bertsch St., Lansford, faces charges from an incident that took place at his residence at 4:22 a.m. July 16. Charges of simple assault, harassment, and possession of marijuana were filed by Officer Jason Helmer. Kieffer was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis and committed to the county prison.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, here's what happened:

Helmer was dispatched to the house on a report of domestic disturbance involving a female who was assaulted. The alleged victim, Pam Kieffer, told Helmer that her husband had assaulted her while they were arguing. She said the argument turned physical and that her husband had grabbed her by the neck. Helmer observed redness and bruising on the right side of her neck.

Kieffer Sr. was located in an upstairs bedroom and arrested. While he was putting on his shoes, Helmer observed a small, clear plastic bag containing green vegetable matter, suspected to be marijuana, inside one of the shoes. The matter was later proven to be the drug.
