The Carbon County Conservation District recognized the winners of the 36th Annual Poster Contest Tuesday evening. This year's poster theme was, "Forests for People More Than You Can Imagine."

"The mission of this contest is to provide kindergarten through 12th grade students an opportunity to convey their thoughts about soil, water and related natural resource issues through art. It also highlights the educational outreach efforts of conservation districts and their state conservation associations, auxiliaries and agencies," stated district manager and contest coordinator, Audrey Wargo.Carbon County students in grades kindergarten through 12th grade participated in the poster contest. The first place winners will have their posters submitted to the Pennsylvania state level poster contest."I would like to thank all of the students that participated in our contest," district Chairman Josiah Behrens said. "I would also like to thank the families for supporting and encouraging your children's interest in conserving and protecting natural resources."The winners of the 2011 poster contest are as follows:In grades kindergarten and first, Megan Aaron of SS Peter & Paul won honorable mention; Sadie Trubilla of Our Lady of the Angels won third place; Leila Hurley of L.B. Morris won second place; and Brynn Wentz of Franklin Elementary won first place.In grades second and third, Jacob Trubilla of Our Lady of the Angels won third place; Kaia Slaw of SS Peter & Paul won second place; and Lindsay Rohlfing of SS Peter & Paul won first place.In grades fourth through sixth, Caine Carpenter of Lehighton Middle won honorable mention; Alexus Eschbach of Our Lady of the Angels won honorable mention; Sayler Burke of St. John Neumann won third place; Maura Phelan of Lehighton Middle won second place; and Kaitlyn Kistler of Lehighton Middle won first place.In grades seventh through ninth, Danielle Dillee of Our Lady of the Angels won honorable mention; Paxton Klotz of Our Lady of the Angels won honorable mention; Emily Cerimele of Lehighton Middle won third place; Lauren Neitz of Our Lady of the Angels won second place; and Allison Amodea of Our Lady of the Angels won first place.In grades 10th through 12th, Cheyenne Dolinsky of Weatherly High won honorable mention; Tiana Genetti of Weatherly High won third place; Samantha Strizak of Weatherly High won second place; and Tiffany Belletiere of Weatherly High won first place.
