Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met April 12 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 41 members in attendance. A moment of silence was held in memory of Joseph Wislosky and Dorothy Gallagher.

President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting.

Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker, including the sending of church memorials in honor of Gallagher and Wislosky.

Birthday greetings were extended to Margaret Matsago.

Jean Machamer, Florina Martin and Shirley Becker provided inspirational readings.

A discussion was held concerning the annual banquet, which is scheduled for May 10 at the Ryan Township Fire Company. Christy Joy will provide the catering.

Doris Brobst donated an Easter flower, which was presented to Carmen Corch.

The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.

WP softball

The West Penn Athletic/Softball Association will host the Aquafina Pitch Hit and Run Competition on April 30.

The event will be held, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the West Penn Park.

The competition is open to all boys and girls between the ages of 7-14.

Participation is free and birth certificates are required for proof of age.

Class of 1961

The Tamaqua Class of 1961 will hold its 50th anniversary reunion on Aug. 6.

SS. Peter and Paul

Easter Sunday Masses in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will be celebrated at 8 p.m. Saturday (vigil), and at 7:30 a.m., 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The Rev.William Linkchorst will officiate.

Stations of the Cross will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m.

A Holy Hour will be held prior to stations and the choir will rehearse following stations.

Other activities next week will include: Holy Thursday, Mass of the Lord's Supper at 7 p.m. with the church remaining open until 10 p.m.; Good Friday, Liturgy of the Passion at 3 p.m.; Holy Saturday, no morning Mass, blessing of baskets at 1 p.m., Easter Vigil Mass at 8 p.m

Help will be needed to decorate the church for Easter.

The process will start following stations on Wednesday, and continue as needed Friday at 9 a.m. and again at 6 p.m.

St. John's Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Easter Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The service will include Holy Communion.

Activities for next week include: Thursday, Messenger assembly at 1 p.m., Constitution Committee meeting at 3 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays: Chimes, 5:30 p.m.; Angels, 6 p.m.; Shepherds, 6:30 p.m.; Praise, 7:30 p.m.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 6:30 a.m. Dawn and 9 a.m. worship services this Easter Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville.

Both services will include Holy Communion and the dawn service will be followed by a breakfast. Sunday school classes will meet at 10:15 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, Women's Bible study at 6 p.m.; Tuesday, preschool board meeting at 6 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., Brownies meet at 6:30 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule includes: Junior Choir rehearsal at 7 p.m. and Senior Choir rehearses at 7:45 p.m.
