Schuylkill Bar Association votes on judge positions

The members of the Schuylkill County Bar Association, at the direction of the board of directors and in accordance with the by-laws, have cast ballots expressing their individual opinion as to whether two currrent serving judges should be retained for another 10 year term.

The association also express their opinion, by ballot, as to the fitness and qualifications of the five candidates who are seeking an open seat on the Court of Common Pleas.

Concerning the retention of Judge Charles M. Miller the vote totals were 102 for retention and 19 against.

Concerning the retention of Judge Cyrus Palmer Dolbin the vote totals were 117 in favor and four against.

Concerning the five candidates to fill the seat vacant due to the retirement of Judge D. Michael Stine, bar members voted either to affirm a candidate as qualified or a negative vote as to his qualification to serve. The vote totals follow:

James G. Conville, 91 affirmative, 16 negative; James P. Goodman, 69 affirmative, 41 negative; Lloyd R. Hampton, 68 affirmative, 38 negative; Gary D. Marchalk, 26 affirmative, 78 negative; and Cal Shields, 71 affirmative, 38 negative.
