Driver involved in fatal Monroe crash is charged
The driver involved in a fatal Monroe County crash that occurred last March has been arrested.
State police at Fern Ridge said Brian T. Farrell, 26, of Blakeslee, was arrested today on charges of homicide by motor vehicle, accidents involving death or injury while not properly licensed, involuntary manslaughter and multiple other motor vehicle code charges.
The crash occurred on March 3 about 1:22 p.m. along SR115 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Killed in the crash was Theresa Riccardi-Garcia, 29, of Effort.
At the time of the crash troopers said Farrell was operating a 1998 Dodge Dakota southbound when he began to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed in a no passing zone.
Garcia was northbound at the time in the left hand lane. Farrell attempted to steer back into the southbound lane but collided head-on into Garcia's 1993 Honda Civic.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Farrell was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment.
Farrell was scheduled to be arraigned on the charges at 11 a.m. today before District Judge Debby York, of Brodheadsville, troopers said. When the initial report was released troopers identified Farrell as Benjamin T. Farrell. His first name has since been corrected.
