West Penn accident injures Lansford man this morning
KATHY KUNKEL/TIMES NEWS A Ford Ranger operated by Ralph Shafer of Lansford was rear-ended shortly before 8:30 a.m. today as Shafer was attempting to turn into the parking lot at Stoves 'N Stuff on SR309. Shafer was transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital for treatment.
A two vehicle accident this morning on SR309 in West Penn Township, near Stoves 'N Stuff, sent at least one man to the hospital.
Ralph Shafer of Lansford was traveling south in a Ford Ranger pick up truck when he stopped to make a left hand turn into the Stoves 'N Stuff parking lot shortly before 8:30 a.m. A delivery van, owned by Fegley Oil and driven by Christopher Huegel of Tamaqua, exited the Fegley lot and rear ended the pick up truck. Shafer's vehicle ended up at the southernmost entrance to the mini mall lot.
Witnesses told investigating officer Melissa Boyer that Shafer did have his turn signals activated. Huegel told police he didn't see the Ford and thouight the roadway was clear.
Shafer was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township. Huegel was being treated at the scene as of press time.
Both vehicles were severely damaged and had to be towed from the scene. Assisting Officer Boyer at the scene were volunteers from the West Penn Fire Company, West Penn Fire Police and Tamaqua Fire Police.
