Carbon County Friends of Animals needs your vote.

The non-profit cat shelter in Jim Thorpe is taking part in the Animal Rescue Site's $300,000 Shelter Challenge. The challenge will award one grand prize of $5,000 to the winning shelter; as well as 51 $1,000 state grants and various other smaller grants during the competition. A total of 68 grants totaling $75,000 will be awarded this challenge round.

In a press release from CCFOA, the volunteers state, "We are reaching out to the Carbon County community for their support to help us win this shelter challenge. It is easy, quick and free. Sign up for a daily email reminder to vote every day. Every vote counts every day!"

To help CCFOA, visit www.theanimalrescuesite.com and click on the purple button at the top of the page that says "Click here to give it's free!" Once you click that button, you will help animals worldwide by giving the value of .6 bowls of food for rescued animals.

At the second screen you are taken to, click on the "VOTE NOW!" button at the top portion of the page. Under the "Search and vote for a shelter," enter Carbon County Friends of Animals in the Shelter Name and select PA from the state category, then click search. Once CCFOA is retrieved through the search, click "Vote."

You can vote once a day until June 19. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, June 22.

Currently, CCFOA is in fourth place in the Pennsylvania shelters who are competing and ranked 58th in the overall challenge.

"We have been in fourth place statewide since this began and we need more votes so we can win money to help care for the animals," said Kimmy Mulik, "Winning this challenge would help us with our medical expenses; provide larger cages, enrichment, supplies and basic shelter necessities. Please support us so we may continue to help those whose only crime was being born."

CCFOA is a no-kill shelter caring for abused, neglected and surrendered cats. In addition to housing felines, the organization also assists with the rescue of any and all types of animals and also find foster and permanent homes for them.
