Fire in New Ringgold barn quelled

A West Penn Township barn fire on Saturday is under investigation. The fire, which apparently started in piles of old hay in a barn at 1 Fort Franklin Road at about 2 p.m. Township police arrived first, and a fire extinguisher from the cruiser was used to knock down the flames before firefighters from Tamaqua, West Penn, East Penn, New Ringgold and New England arrived. West Penn Fire Police detoured traffic away from the area for the duration. No injuries were reported. The barn was reportedly owned by Dolores H. Yaggie of West Penn Township. Township Police Chief Brian Johnson said that empty gas cans were found at the scene. He asks that anyone who saw anything suspicious or has any information that may help in the investigation call police at (570) 386-1100.
