Senior participants from Carbon County's Senior Centers and any senior in the community that wanted to participate were eligible to attend the Senior Center Summer Picnic which was held at the picnic pavilion at Memorial Park in Jim Thorpe. There are five Senior Centers in the county and Cheri Santore, Aging Administrator for Carbon County, estimated that approximately 200 people attended the picnic. Along with the beautiful weather and the fellowship shared by all, the attending seniors enjoyed a cakewalk for prizes and games such as bingo, checkers, and a bean bag game. The participants began their day out with breakfast and later in the day they enjoyed bean soup, hot dogs, sodas, ice tea, and a variety of deserts. All the while, they were treated to live entertainment from singer Tammy G who performed a wide variety of musical numbers. According to Anne Horrigan, Senior Center Director in charge of all the Senior Centers in Carbon County, the picnic was scheduled to commemorate National Senior Center Week.
