Writers' group

The Black Diamond Writers' Network will meet Sept. 18, from 10 a.m. until noon, at the Tamaqua Public Library, 30 S. Railroad St. Guest speaker will be Loretta Mestishen, whose topic will be "The Right to Write: Voice, Authenticity and Persistence in the Craft of Writing."

The public is welcome to attend.

The BDWN is a nonprofit organization offering writing education and networking opportunities.

The group meets the third Saturday of every month.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care is provided. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, A TYM staff meeting will be held at 11:45 a.m. and a worship service will be held at 2:30 p.m. at the Hometown Nursing Center.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, prayer time at 8:30 a.m., Men's Fraternity meets at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., Prayer and Bible study at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Quilters meet at 10:30 a.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., praise practice at 9:30 a.m.

A Men's Fraternity will begin Sept. 14 and will continue meeting on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Designed to help men understand their roles, the group is Biblically based and non-denominational. For more information, or to enroll, call (570) 668-2520.

First Methodist

The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at two worship services this Sunday: 9:30 a.m. in Salem United Methodist Church; and at 10:45 a.m. in First United Methodist Church. The service at Salem UM will include Holy Communion.

Activities in First UM for next week will include: Monday, Board of Trustees meets at 6 p.m., Administrative Council meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, Quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Senior Choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.

The churches have combined to offer an outreach ministry to U.S. troops serving abroad by purchasing "Biblesticks," a digital audio device preloaded with an entire New Testament.
