One person was killed Wednesday in a one vehicle crash in which speed was a factor.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said the crash occurred along Seven Nations Drive in Coolbaugh Township, Monroe County, about 7:36 p.m.

Police said a car was driven westbound at a high rate of speed and rounding a curve when the driver, Jermaine Peterkin, 22, of East Stroudsburg, lost control. The vehicle went into a counter-clockwise spin and struck a tree with the passenger side off the south berm.

An adult male passenger in the front seat was pinned in the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the county coroner's office. The name of the deceased was not immediately released by police pending notification of the next of kin.

Peterkin and back seat passenger, Tyshawn Sommerville, 23, of Tobyhanna, were both injured and taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment.

The investigation into the crash is continuing and a accident resconstruction team of the PMRP are assisting.
