Bears grab soccer, v'ball wins

Pleasant Valley picked up wins in boys soccer and girls volleyball, while Northern Lehigh grabbed a field hockey win in scholastic action on Friday.


Northwestern-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh knocked off Northwestern in a Colonial League field hockey battle, 4-1.

The Bulldogs' four goals were scored by Alicia Bowers, Lauren Zellner, Rachel Wagner and Casey Gavalla. They improve to 1-2 (1-1) on the year.

The Tigers' lone goal came off the foot of Paige Horner.


Bangor shut out Palmerton, 5-0 in its Colonial League field hockey game.

The Slaters' Abigail Bakke tallied a hat-trick in the win. Emily Howell had an assist.

Palmerton goalie Lydia Anthony had 21 saves.



Stroudsburg, the defending MVC champs, held down Lehighton at home and won by a 6-2 score.

Luke Millen and Kristopher Holland scored the Indians' two goals.

The Mounties out-shot the Indians 29-7 in the game.

Pleasant Valley-ES South

Pleasant Valley blanked MVC-foe East Stroudsburg South, winning 3-0.

The Bears' Travis Zilmer and Chris Neff accounted for two of the goals. The third was an 'own goal' by the Cavaliers.

Pleasant Valley's defense held Eastburg South to just two shots.


Pleasant Valley-ES North

Pleasant Valley won its opening MVC match by beating East Stroudsburg North, 22-25, 25-5, 25-19, 25-9.

Kayla Dorney led the Bears (3-0) with 16 digs, 11 kills, seven aces and two blocks. MacKinzie Dorney added 17 digs and six kills.

Teammate Brittni Cumberland dished out 25 assists, while Crystal Cambria had five blocks.
